how women in the world of CrossFit are proving that the girls are as just as worthy of admiration as the boys
Essential oils are becoming the standard go-to treatment for a myriad of health issues. From the common cold to headaches, disinfecting your house and even treating heart conditions, the studies proving the diverse uses of oils can’t be ignored. And one you might be surprised to hear that is especially beneficial is oil from oregano.
I’ve got one pair of heels held hostage amongst 12 pairs of trainers, so it’s safe to say I might have learned a thing or two about what shoes work best for training. And before CrossFit I tended to opt for Asics- a comfortable and stable trainer that’s great for both running and fitness classes. But last year, a few months into starting CrossFit, I finally got around to trying on a pair of Reebok Nanos. And while I am sure they perform well, I never purchased a pair due to how uncomfortable they felt on my wide feet. Then the Nike MetCons were revealed, and I decided to give them a go. They were the answer to my CrossFit shoe prayers. They fit like a dream.
My first experience at regionals was an overwhelming one, but I wouldn’t change a second of it. From spending hours prepping the athlete’s food and writing my articles between events to hanging out at the house with Team Buff Box, Regional athlete Lucy Majury and Youtube CrossFit star Craig Richey, it was an amazing whirlwind adventure. Read below for the final results and the most memorable moments from Day two and three.
From five-time regional athlete Jordan Wallace to first timers such as South African hopeful Alan Foulis, Buff Box was right at the heart of the 2016 Meridian regionals ensuring athletes were fuelled and ready. The energy on Friday morning was contagious with the likes of Team Yas, Team Nordic Opex and CrosssFit Reykjavik stopping by the booth to pick up their 1st day of meals while waiting for their heats to begin. You wouldn’t know these athletes were about to begin their first round of the regionals weekend as they were all completely cool, calm and collected. While most of the people who came to pick up food were coaches and athletes, including the talented and stunning Megan Lovegrove, it was also great to see a few spectators pick up food for the weekend. So what was day 1 with the BuffBox Athletes like? The snatch ladder was a strong start to the weekend and the… Read more »
The elusive Power Plate machine. A lot of people have seen these weird contraptions sitting unused in their local gym, a bit intimidated but what they do and how they do it. You may have heard that Power Plate is just a fading fitness fad, but these machines are the real deal when it comes to fat loss and improving your overall fitness level.
The overground is no longer the primary source of commotion when you’re walking past many of London’s railway arches. Instead, a mixture of clamorous noises rule the sound waves; think barbells dropping, people gasping for breath and music pumping amongst the reverberation of passing trains.
And it’s freaking delicious. Every six weeks, Buff Box and its team of nutritionists revamp its specially designed menu. And this isn’t done just to keep your taste buds happy. Besides tasting great, each meal is seasonally designed so that you receive the freshest ingredients available. Because Buff Box doesn’t only cater to your macro-nutrient requirements, they want to feed you the most ethically sourced and nutrient dense foods available.
I recently came across Bear Strength and their clothing at the CrossFit Athlete Games in London, and I was immediately drawn to the brands bright colours and soft fabrics.
My previous post discussed why respecting the expertise of those that have specialised in a field of study is always a good idea. And despite the fact that everyone seems to have an opinion on health and fitness, these are two topics where we should undoubtedly be learning from the experts. And while I don’t believe there is a one-size-fits-all approach to health and fitness, and often times one specialist will provide advice that is contradictory to another, I do believe Buff Box is a one-size-fits-all nutrition company, with knowledge that can assist everyone working towards their own individual health goals. Read below for my interview with Matt Hodges, head nutritionist and co-founder of Buff Box.
