Sunday- Monday | 9am – 3pm Tuesday – Friday | 9am – 10pm Saturday | 9am – 6pm Let me just start by saying that eating out should be an enjoyable and guilt-free experience and it is refreshing to know that there are restaurants like Tanya’s creating just that. If I can find a restaurant with food that tastes amazing AND be called raw living, which is defined as “plant-based, hand-picked, organically grown, ethically sourced, and free from refined sugar or glutens” then sign me up. That leads me to one of London’s most talked about superfood restaurants, Tanya’s Café, where even the most ardent of carnivores will leave satisfied.
To start, the superfood cocktails were a no brainer. With drink names such as Just What the Doctor Ordered, that include vodka, lemon, beets, carrots, celery, lavender, ginger bitters and chia seeds, it seems that drinking could in fact become a healthy past time.
Next up was the tasting platter of taco, pizza, stuffed mushrooms and pad thai. My favourite had to be the taco and pizza but just don’t expect what you may normally find in a crunchy taco or bubbling pizza, but prepare for something totally raw and one-off.
Still curious as to what the menu offered, the coconut jerky appetiser popped out to me. I love beef jerky and I love coconut, and while the two together almost seemed off putting, this concoction of rehydrated coconut meat mixed with a special mix of herbs and spices was easily my favourite item on the menu. Dessert was next, and it easily trumped any dessert at my local bakery. Please just do yourself a favour and try the cheesecake or whatever they have on order. It will be freakin’ amazing.
Needing to try more, I came back for lunch a few days later and once again couldn’t have been happier. The matcha latte with a hint of mint, almond butter and dates, left me feeling all warm and fuzzy inside, and for my main I oped for the Superfood salad which came with half an avocado topped with a superseed blend alongside spiralised veggies mixed with rocket salad and lemon tahini sauce. All the ingredients came together perfectly.
While a lot of people think these sorts of restaurants are a fad, the amount of people that pack Tanya’s, thoroughly enjoying each mouthful of food, say otherwise. Each item on the menu has been carefully thought out and is beautifully prepared, and I will definitely be returning for more.
Stop by, shamelessly snap a picture or two for your IG account, and find your raw food nirvana.
